Hi. My name is Molly Rorick. I have a PhD in evolutionary genetics and I am a science educator and illustrator. Please reach out if you would like to work together!
I have a background in both art and biology. I got my PhD from Yale University in 2011. I had a career in academic research for several years, focusing on the evolution and ecology of infectious diseases. In 2016 I started teaching evolutionary biology in K-12 classrooms through an outreach project, and I got hooked. Now I am a full-time science educator and illustrator.
Much of my illustration work consists of science worksheets and coloring pages drawn by hand. Much of my illustration work consists of science worksheets and coloring pages drawn by hand. Careful illustrations of specimens, as well as hand-drawn scientific figures and tables, are useful educational tools. Children observe and emulate with great integrity. When teachers use approachable, low-tech scientific methods and provide hand-drawn examples, children have the opportunity to emulate the methods and gain fundamental skills.
Children are my inspiration. They are natural scientists: creative and industrious seekers of the truth! It is a great honor to work with young minds and spread the joy of science. As an illustrator, children are my favorite audience. They are at once harsh critics and appreciative clients. Beautiful illustrations are powerful educational tools, as beauty stems from clarity and truth.
